Traffic Accident Claims Life of Peruvian Presidential Candidate

(MENAFN) Peruvian presidential hopeful Napoleon Becerra, representing the Workers and Entrepreneurs Party, dies in a traffic accident while en route to a campaign event in southern Peru, according to reports.

The accident occurs in the Rumichaca area as Becerra travels by car to an event in the Ayacucho region. Several individuals confirm the news, including Emely Silva, a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies from Becerra’s party.

Silva says some party members traveling with Becerra sustain injuries in the crash. She requests assistance from authorities to provide emergency medical care for the wounded and to arrange transportation of Becerra’s body.

Peru is set to hold presidential and congressional elections on April 12, electing a new president, vice presidents, and members of both chambers of Congress.

Becerra had been active in politics for many years, advocating for stronger public security, anti-corruption measures, and economic growth through support for small and medium-sized enterprises.
